Summer of Action: Faith

Lights, camera…ACTION!

Summer is in full effect and the Crown of Glory e-board decided to make this summer a Summer of Action! Each Queen on the e-board set hair, health, and inner (spiritual/mental) and outer (physical) goals. We have committed not just to aspiring to goals and dreams, but ACTING on them. Every few weeks one of the Queens will post a blog update on how their goals are coming alone. Join us as we begin our summer of action!

Well I am the first blogger up and it has been about three weeks since the Summer of Action began. Here are the goals that I set for the summer:

HAIR: Try new hair practices and products. Try new styles. Wash and deep condition my hair every week. Get it trimmed professionally at some point this summer.

BEAUTY: Try new make- up looks, use products that are not tested on animals, Read my bible everyday one chapter from each of the following books (1st Samuel, Psalm, Proverbs, Matthew, Acts)

HEALTH: Lose 4 inches from my waist by doing 100 sit-ups every day and run for 30 minutes on the treadmill 4 days out of the week.

So how have I been doing with my goals? Well, let’s start with my hair goals for now. I’ve been the most successful with this goal. I tried some new products that I love. I ordered a sample kit from a natural hair company called Entwine Couture. I found that after using these products, my hair was soft, moisturized and my hairstyles such as my twists outs and bantu knot outs looked better and lasted longer. I also tried a new practice of putting honey in my hair before shampooing. I was skeptical at first but it really works – it made my hair so soft and shiny! Honey helps to retain moisture, and it softens and makes hair smoother, which makes it a great conditioner and moisturizer. It is also rich in vitamins and minerals, so using it in your hair care routine can leave your tresses looking shinier, feeling softer, and in an overall more healthy condition. Recent studies have also shown that because of honey’s antibacterial and antioxidant properties, it can also prove beneficial in keeping your scalp healthy and promoting hair growth! (  I will definitely be using honey more often. It’s cheaper and gives the same result as a lot of those expensive hair products out there.

Accomplishing my beauty goals has been a little bit harder. I chose to focus more on my inner beauty and spiritual growth by spending more time reading and meditating on my bible and praying. I pray every day and I read my bible everyday but I haven’t been consistent with the quality of the time I dedicate to this. Some days I read 5 chapters from the books of the bible that I mentioned in my goals but other days I only read one chapter because of a lack of time and concentration. I have also been inconsistent with meeting my health goals. I like working out first thing in the morning so that I can get it out of the way but for the past two weeks it seems like I have been making a lot of excuses not to exercise. Last week I wasn’t feeling well and I let that be my biggest excuse. I only worked out about two days out of the week and I did my abs work out for four days out of the week. This week I have been on track. I am eating smaller portions and I am exercising and completing my abs workout every day so far! One thing that I have learned through this journey is that it is all about consistency. The more I exercise the easier it gets and the more motivated I become. I encourage you all to set a few personal goals for yourself this summer and try to stick to it.

“You are capable of more than you know. Choose a goal that seems right for you and strive to be the best, however hard the path. Aim high. Behave honorably. Prepare to be alone at times, and to endure failure. Persist! The world needs all you can give”- E.O Wilson
